Thank you for this week Lynne. I hope you don't mind if I catch up on Kathis challenge.
Photos from my early life
Nana and granddads Ruby wedding anniversary taken before we moved.
I'm sitting at the front, Nana and granddad at the back.
Marion in the garden at Limestone Cottage
Dad on the right talking to Mr Wrench, the estate manager.
Myself with baby Marion on my knee and Mary standing at the side
It was Marions christening day.
You can just see Limestone Cottage in the background.

My oldest piece of clothing
It's 24 years old and I can get in it again.
Things I can't leave home without
I always take my purse and a packet of paper hankies
I often forget my mobile phone.
The person who has probably influenced me most or who I really admire.
is probably Tina Turner.
I so admire her for the way she got out of a terrible marriage
and went on to make such a success of her life.
My 5 minutes of Fame
Not sure if I had one
but I can remember shaking my shoes
when I had to give a talk to the parents of the children in the school
when we got a new maths syllabus.
I had to explain it to them and answer questions.
I think I said I would explain about Oxcroft in my last blog on Nostalgia.
Oxcroft was one of many estates around the country that was created after the first world war for people who lived in towns and hadn't any work. Each estate had houses with land to make small holdings. There was an estate manager and a packing estate manager - my dad - on each estate along with farm equipment the tenants could borrow.
The tenants sent their produce into the packing station where it was sorted and then sent to market.
We left Oxcroft when I was 9 to go to Crofton in Cumberland when my dad had a promotion to a much larger packing station that served 3 estates.

Not at all Viv! xx
ReplyDeleteI found the blog really interesting. and loved the photos as it reminded me of the same era as a child!
lovely memories :)
ReplyDeleteI love your old photos and your post was very interesting. I am glad you were able to catch up and I hope you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteViv,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog by accident last night whilst browsing the internet .
You talk about your childhood at Limestone Cottage on the Oxcroft Settlements near Chesterfield. If it was the large stone cottage opposite Oxcroft Farm and the packing sheds then we are the current occupants. Do you have any other photographs of the area. Regards Steve Shearwood
